Some 33 years later, Benson said she still performs Ariel’s big song, “Part of Your World,” every week. In the title role as Ariel was Disney Legend Jodi Benson, a young Broadway actress who was encouraged to audition for the part by the film’s lyricist, Disney Legend Howard Ashman. In 1989, The Little Mermaid kicked off Disney’s renaissance of animated musical films. We’re grateful to the entire film community for collaborating with the Library of Congress to ensure these films are preserved for the future.” “We are proud to add 25 more films by a group of vibrant and diverse filmmakers to the National Film Registry as we preserve our cinematic heritage. “Films have become absolutely central to American culture by helping tell our national story for more than 125 years,” Carla Hayden, Librarian of Congress, said in a statement. Disney’s The Little Mermaid (1989) and Marvel Studios’ Iron Man (2008) are among the 25 films named today to the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress. 6/10/2023 0 Comments Hard Wired by Megan EricksonHe glared at his best friend.Įrick sighed heavily but didn’t back down. Things have been a bit tense in the Thompson/Hauptman household as of late. I have read everything, which makes this a review by a fan for other fans. You have to really like a series to read that far into it, along with the adjacent narratives ( Alpha & Omega) that make up the Mercyverse and their various short stories. Too much character and world building take place in earlier novels for this story to make sense to anyone who hasn’t read those tales and this volume contains spoilers for the earlier works. Smoke Bitten is the twelfth book in the Mercy Thompson series and can only be read as part of the saga. 6/9/2023 0 Comments Dial a for aunties epubUnfortunately, a dead body proves to be a lot more challenging to dispose of than one might anticipate, especially when it is inadvertently shipped in a cake cooler to the over-the-top billionaire wedding Meddy, her Ma, and aunties are working at an island resort on the California coastline. Yes, it was nice not to have to read subtitles, but the overall effect served to weaken the viewer's ability to suspend disbelief. However, the use of heavily accented English in the film was an unfortunate choice on the part of the director. The movie does provide a unique window into Japanese society at that time. The depiction of Sayuri's abusive and lonely childhood was heart-wrenching. The costumes in the movie were stunning visually as was the scenery. In one scene, Sayuri is shown trying to sleep by resting her neck on a tiny platform so as not to mess up her hair and then accidentally rolling over in her sleep and ruining her intricate and painfully acquired hairdo. For example, it was especially interesting to see the training and beauty rituals involved in being a geisha. I also very much enjoyed seeing the cultivation of a geisha played out onscreen. By far the best aspect of the movie was the fabulous costumes, scenery and cinematography. In all honesty, I felt that the movie did fall short in some ways but that it was so visually mesmerizing that it was worth watching. I read the book "Memoirs of a Geisha" just before the movie came out and I was reluctant to watch the movie because the book was so engrossing and satisfying that I was worried the movie might fall short. 6/8/2023 0 Comments Catwings series in orderLe Guin was also the recipient of the Association for Library Service to Children’s May Hill Arbuthnot Honor Lecture Award and the Margaret A.
